PRODUCT BRIEFING
A secondary sedimentation tank sludge scraper is equipment used in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants to remove the settled sludge from the bottom of a secondary clarifier or sedimentation tank. This scrapper is critical equipment as it substantially helps in ensuring the proper removal of sludge in the wastewater treatment process. The secondary treatment process follows the primary treatment's initial steps and involves the removal of the residual suspended solids and biological contaminants. The residual contaminants are separated from the water by settling in a secondary sedimentation tank. The resulting sludge accumulates at the bottom of the tank. The secondary sedimentation tank sludge scraper is essential in removing and thickening the sludge before it's sent for further treatment, such as anaerobic digestion, incineration, or land application. This equipment consists of a set of scraper blades that continually remove the accumulated sludge from the tank's bottom and move it toward a hopper where it's pumped to other processing tanks or waste holding facilities. EVU has developed a special chain scraper system for circular sedimentation tanks, where collector chains move two or more bottom scrapers (and an attached surface skimmer when required) at the bottom of the tank. All the moving parts in the system are placed below the water surface, which protects them from freezing during winter. Keeping the parts below water also enables the easy covering of the tanks, and as the scraper rotates at the bottom, the covering can be attached to the tank walls. All the components in Finnchain' system are made of corrosion-resistant fibreglass, plastic or stainless steel.

FUNCTION

Industrial Wastewater Treatment Center Drive Scraper Unit

For peripheral operation,

the bridge rotates. The bridge support bearing is ­assembled on top of the central column. The bridge is powered by a front wheel driven end-carriage running on top of the tank wall.

Our full-bridge and semi-bridge rotating sludge scrapers are of latticework design with tubular vertical supports that are welded or bolted to horizontal beams supported from the bridge, angled scraper blades are fitted for bottom scraping to remove sludge from the entire floor to the sludge pit in the center of the tank. Optionally the units are equipped with surface sludge blades that transport floating sludge to a sludge cone. The floating sludge scraper blades are assembled ­below the bridge that rotates.
The peripheral driven rotating sludge scrapers can be designed with siphon pumping (also referred to as airlift pumps) as option or with submersible pumps.
